Harlem was the smallest district we worked on as a team and we intentionally built to be less dense, older and a bit dirtier than the other districts. The art direction I chose for the team on this was to let the graffiti do what signage had done in Chinatown. Lots of graffiti. We learned from real New York graffiti artists how to accurate place different types of graffiti throughout (where they would be, how to cluster them, general rules and guidelines, etc). These lessons gave us confidence to apply these learnings throughout the rest of city. The screenshots here are 100% my own level art.
